Botox

What is Botox?
Botox, or Botulinum Type A, has been used since the 1970's by doctors to treat paediatric cerebal palsy, spasmodic torticollis, blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm.
It was first used cosmetically in 1990 as a treatment for worry lines, crow's feet, laugh lines and dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles when we a laugh, smile or frown).
How does it work?
Botox works by blocking the nerve impulses that tell a muscle to contract. This temporarily paralyses the muscles that cause wrinkles, thus giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance
Why Botox?
Botox has gained in popularity over the recent years for several reasons. Firstly it is less invasive than a face-lift, the results are immediate and it is much cheaper than any form of surgery.
What is involved?
A small amount of liquid is administered into several locations on the face by injection. No local anaesthetic is required for the process.
What kind of results can i expect?
Results can be amazing, with the full effect being apparent in 3-7 days. The overlaying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled, whilst the untreated facial muscles are still able to contract normally, allowing normal facial expression to remain unaffected.
How long does it last?
The effect of Botox lasts between 3 and 4 months, so in order to maintain the results a top up would be required after this period.
However the duration of the benefits do increase with time, so injections may not be required so frequently in future.

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are the instant solution for lines, wrinkles, lip enhancement and facial contouring. They are similar to hyaluronic acid found naturally in the skin and when injected into the skin, it replenishes the natural hyaluronic acid and hydrates the skin by imprisoning the water molecules and giving back the skin its volume and initial form. This means ageing lines are quickly reduced giving you youthful looking skin.
How does it work?
HydraFill is injected using a pre-filled syringe equipped with a very fine needle, only a few millimeters below the skin's surface, temporarily adding volume to the layers of the skin that have deteriorated due to age and other factors. When injected Hydrafill is used to raise depressions in the skin, providing temporary correction of wrinkles and skin folds.
What areas can be treated?
The most common areas for treatment are the smile lines around the nose and mouth marionette lines at the corners of your mouth, frown lines between the eyes and fine lines above the mouth. Fillers can also be used to redefine and enhance lips by smoothing the skin surrounding them and even augment a Cupid's Brow, resulting in full and attractive lips.
What kind of results can i expect?
Results can be fantastic, fine lines, wrinkles and folds are immediately filled and smoothed taking years off your face. The volume of the lips can also be increased and lip definition improved, reducing the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth and giving you instantly more glamorous, younger-looking lips.
Is it safe?
Yes for most people. The primary ingredient in Hydrafill is hyaluronic acid, which is a component of skin. Hydrafill has undergone extensive testing including scientific clinical trials to establish its safety and effectiveness.
Is it what i need?
Perform a simple stretch test. Pull your skin tight on either side of the wrinkles you want to test, this will allow you to asses the potential for optimal treatment capability. If the line/wrinkle goes away when the skin is pulled tight, then full correction may be achieved. Keep in mind if you can still see the line when the skin is pulled tight, then we will be able to smooth the area, but you may still see the line.
How long does it last?
To maintain the optimum result, touch-up injections are usually two or three times a year. Since everyone's skin is different the timing of any additional treatments varies person to person. Over time Hydrafill will be absorbed by your body, which is why you may want ongoing treatment, any remaining Hydrafill is simply absorbed by your body over time and your skin gradually returns to its natural shape.
How is this different to Botox?
Botox (Botulin Toxin Type A) is a protein that is injected into muscles to relax them, smoothing lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements. In contrast, Hydrafill is a dermal filler that is injected just below a wrinkle in order to "fill" it in, smoothing the surface of the skin.
